Lectures :

Lecture 1

We started the class with submission of project 1 and than we continue with our next project which is brochure design. We have the topic about P. Ramlee and we start to look for references at the library and also online about both P. Ramlee and brochure. After that before we go home we tell ms. Lilian about what are we going to do, the concept and a bit of the feel. For my brochure I choose to combine P. Ramlee with Spotify as the event that playing a tribute to his songs.

Lecture 2
After the mid break we did the consultation and class discussion to help us on what to add more and what to do. Most of us did the research and type formatting but most of us also didn't do so much work so the progress is quite slow. Ms. Lilian also teach us a lot about InDesign and how can we work fast in InDesign.

Lecture 3

So today we do the one on one consultation for the draft layout that we'll be using for the project 1 final. Ms.Lilian recommend me to use the one with the oval visual to make it looks more eye catching and not using both dramatic expression photo because it'll confuse the reader on which one is the main news item and not using both circular visual. As for the typography I'm allowed to choose which one I like the most between all that I've explore. I can also use the first page draft because it has the flow on which one to read first. Ms.Lilian also separate us into 3 groups to do the exercise for project 2 on the brochure folding.

Project 2 (30%)

The Brief
Brochure Design

Duration of Assignment
3 Weeks (Briefing on week 6)

Deadline
Week 9 (01 Nov 2017)

Description
You will conceptualise, design and produce a brochure on a topic assigned to you. The text will be provided for you but you will have to display creativity in the execution of visual dynamics with text and page layout. Conceptualize an appropriate setting for the design of the brochure and take information from there to create more design details. For example, to accompany an artshow, background information on a play, etc.

You will tell the story connected to the topic as a brochure of no more than 8 pages. The brochure must contain a cover, the article, visuals, information as well as a back cover. The execution of this brochure is an introduction and exercise to formatting and arranging a large body of text to provide a clear and informative physical representation of the topic given.

As you progress, lectures, tutorials and discussions will support your understanding of this design area. It is important that you develop an in-depth understanding of publishing design through analyzing the linear manner a brochure communicates information and ideas to its reader. You will use Adobe InDesign in your execution of the brochure layout. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop is a must.

Finally, you shall explore how to digitally publish your brochure online. As this is an
experimentation in progress, it shall be a learning process done during contact hours with your lecturer. The aim would be to successfully publish the brochure online.

Requirements
The size of the brochure will be no larger than A4 (when folded) for considerations of economy.
You may use any colour of your choice, full-colour if necessary, for the communication of the
topic. You may be resourceful to acquire visuals from different sources but ensure that you credit
these sources accordingly. The work is compiled chronologically in an A3 Folio and documented
on the students’ e portfolio.

Submission
1. 8 page brochure in colour/black and white of a good standard of crafting.
2. Research and design process filed chronologically, in an A3 folio.
3. Design report on e portfolio.
4. Digital publication of brochure.

Objectives
1. To develop students ability to produce layout of a good standard.
2. To develop students ability to create a suitable grid system that allows them flexibility.
3. To develop students understanding of the relationship between text and image.
4. To develop students ability to manage a large body of information while prioritizing
aesthetics and function.
5. To develop students discovery of the digital publishing platform.

    Feedback

    Week 8
The draft doesn't really work, because it's only 1 column it's harder to read as there's not much visual on it and only words.Try to choose helvetica with circular rather than just circular and circular.

    Week 9
Looks better as now there's a word flow on it. Maybe change the color of the text that's green maybe make it just same as the others and just make it italic. Change some picture because it's to same feel of photos on the pages.

    Reflection

    Experience
Offer all when I'm doing the project and exercises I really enjoy doing all the works because we learn a lot more about not only brochure but we also learn more to use InDesign so we can work faster and easier for us.

    Observation
All the work process really enjoying and not pushing me too hard so I can enjoy the work and learn a lot from it.

    Findings
I found that the works are a good practice for me especially new things on InDesign to help me work even more faster than before.
