Exercise 2: Grid Layout

Lectures :

Lecture 2
While waiting for our turn to do one on one consultation about the text formatting we're doing our second exercise which is grid layout. But after we get our feedback for the text formatting most of us end up keep on exploring the typography and not doing the second exercise. After we're able to reach at least 8 design we need to print it on A3 paper so see more clearly when printed, is it good enough to use.

Exercises (10%)

The Brief
Exercises.

Duration of Assignment
Continuous, throughout the semester

Description
To develop your understanding of the practical employment of typography, a series of exercises will be implemented. Students will apply what they have learnt from lectures and discussions in these exercises, which will be assessed and contribute to the overall mark of the module. It is important that students work on these exercises with commitment in order to fully understand the design principles involved. The knowledge and skills developed will be applied to the accompanying projects.

All exercises prescribed are to be completed and documented (labelled, clean, clear & concise) in your e portfolio and hardcopy portfolio respectively.

The exercises are as follows:
  1. 1)  Text formatting
  2. 2)  Grid system variation
  3. 3)  Brochure folds (8pg)
  4. 4)  Magazine publishing online
  5. 5)  Masthead design
Requirements
To complete and to showcase mastery in the exercises prescribed in its various forms. The work is compiled chronologically in an A3 Folio and documented on the students’ e portfolio.

Submission
  1. Exercises to be documented chronologically in an A3 Folio. The works must be labelled and dated.
  2. E portfolio posts for every exercise labelled and dated.
Objectives
  1. To develop students theoretical understanding via practical means.
  2. To develop students grasps to the components of the module.
  3. To develop students explorative and innovative spirit.
  4. To develop students practical application of the design process.

Exercise 2
Grid layout

I actually able to make 8 grid layout in class with different number of columns.

Feedback
The second layout can be a good one to explore because it's unique and have the point of where is the headline because the visual is in the different type of formatting. Explore more.

Reflection
Experience
It's a bit hard because we're focusing on something we actually need to do at home not in class so again we're behind and end up only able to achieve a bit of grid layout in class.

Observation
The exercise is good for me to try to put things like how I want it to be but still look good, not just because I like and want it like that. Also from a bit of research I can take some of it as reference for my grid exercise.

Findings
I found that we need to do something simple first, it's okay if it's not perfect or not too good as long as you're willing to try and learn from it and not doing the something on the same case again only because I'm lazy because I'm quite often doing that thing.
